Love Our Huts season #3 is coming very soon!
After a hugely successful season #2 of Love Our Huts over summer 2025-2026, we can’t wait to see how many huts get loved in season #3 over summer 2026-2027!
Hut loving registrations for season #3 will open on 1 October 2026 and hut loving will run from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027.
The good news? We have made hut loving even simpler. On 1 October 2026 our new Love Our Huts website www.loveourhuts.org.nz will go live. It will be the one-stop shop for Love Our Huts: find a hut on the interactive map, register a hut for some love, and once you’ve visited and cleaned the hut, complete a simple online report and upload some photos to help us track how the hut is doing.
What is Love Our Huts?
Love Our Huts is FMC’s campaign that invites outdoor recreationists to give a backcountry hut a spring clean and health check to ensure they remain in good condition for future generations to enjoy.
These huts are more than places to rest — they’re where we shelter from storms, share stories, and connect with our wild places. They’re also a base for important conservation work. Our network of public huts is unique – so we care for it together.
We all know DOC’s resources are stretched. By giving our huts some care and recording how they’re doing, we’re helping free up time for conservation work — while also doing our part to help keep the network of public huts in public hands.
It’s a practical way for us, together, to show decision-makers that these places matter — that huts are loved by communities all over Aotearoa.
When supporters sign up to Love Our Huts, they register a hut of their choosing, receive a cleaning checklist, plan their trip anytime before May 2027, and then head out to do the clean. Whether it’s your local favourite, one you’ve always wanted to visit, or incorporated into a bigger trip, now’s the time to head in and show huts some love.
Now in its third season, Love Our Huts has brought together thousands of volunteers who have together given more than 500 huts some love over the past two summers.

Love Our Huts is kindly supported by Tūpiki Trust and HutBagger.
As a not-for-profit organisation made up of passionate volunteers and a small part-time staff team, the generosity of Tūpiki Trust and HutBagger allows us to run initiatives like Love Our Huts to continue protecting New Zealand’s backcountry.
Tūpiki Trust attracts bequests and gifts from those who love climbing and uses the funds to back projects like “Love Our Huts”, which support climbing or care of Aotearoa’s climbing environment.
