Love our Huts and Tracks
Caring for our huts and tracks — together.
Last November, our community came together to show some love to the backcountry — visiting huts and giving them a good spring clean.
Now, we’re getting ready to do it again — and this time, it won’t just be for a month, but for a whole season. There’ll be more chances for everyone to get involved, in ways big and small.
Watch this space — we’ll be sharing more soon!

Together, we made it happen
Last November, over 1800 of you took part in our Love Our Huts and Tracks campaign — visiting more than 450 huts across Aotearoa.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined in and showed their love for the backcountry!

Why love our huts and tracks?
There’s a special feeling that comes when you round the corner on a track and see, at the edge of a clearing, a hut’s simple roof line and, with it, the prospect of a fire and a warm night.
We love our huts. Aotearoa’s network of tracks and huts is truly unique, helping us to care for nature, explore the backcountry safely and connect with the land.
We believe this deserves to be protected and celebrated. Love Our Huts and Tracks is a way for all of us to do just that — together.

What’s involved?
A whole lot of volunteer mahi — and plenty of fun.
The core action is simple: get a group together (if you like), register your interest, choose a hut — or a few — and head out to give them a good health check and loving spring clean.
When you return, we’ll ask you to send us some photos and a quick report on the hut’s condition, using the checklist we provide.
